Scripture to pray over SUMMER

Summer is almost here!!!!! And summer with the kids is beautiful chaos, packed with extra sweet snacks, later bedtimes, and (hopefully) a little more intentional time together. While summer can come with challenges, it’s the more carefree your kids will be and we could learn a little something from them. I want to be very intentional with all the time I have with my kids, but especially when we are together a LOT. Here are 5 versus for you to pray over your summer, and I would encourage you to commit them to memory. You could even have a verse of the week for your kids to learn and memorize alongside you. You can save the pictures and print them out to put on your fridge, bathroom mirror, or car dash!

1. For Wonder and Gratitude

Psalm 118:24

"This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."

  • The Prayer: Lord, help us not to rush through these summer days. Even on the rainy afternoons or the days when the house is messy, help us find something to celebrate together.

2. For Spiritual Growth

Colossians 2:7

"Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness."

  • The Prayer: While the kids are growing physically this summer, let their spirits grow even faster. May their identity and joy be rooted in Your love rather than just their summer activities or sports.

3. For Protection and Peace

Numbers 6:24-26

"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace."

  • The Prayer: As we travel, play, and explore, keep us safe. Let our home be a place where Your peace is tangible, and may our children feel Your favor on them in every bike ride and pool day.

4. For Kindness and Connection

Ephesians 4:32

"Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."

  • The Prayer: Summer can bring a lot of "togetherness" (and the bickering that comes with it!). Help us to be quick to forgive and slow to anger. Soften our hearts toward one another.

5. For Rest and Refreshment

Matthew 11:28

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

  • The Prayer: God, help us find true rest this summer—not just a break from school, but a refreshing of our souls. Give us moments of quiet where we can hear Your voice.

What activity or trip are you looking forward to the most this summer?
