What is Manna for Momma?

Updated: Jan 27, 2022

Spiritual Nutrition for Malnourished Mommas

Manna is defined as “the substance miraculously supplied as food for the Israelites while in the wilderness” (Webster) Exodus 16.

God gave the Israelites precisely the amount of manna they needed exactly when they needed it. Exodus 16:4 "Then the Lord said to Moses, "Behold, I am about to rain bread from heaven for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may rest them, whether they will walk in my law or not". Interestingly enough, they could not keep more than they needed, making it impossible to use the manna greedily or for personal gain. Exodus 16:19-21. They were still totally dependent on God. Exodus 16:35.

If there is only one analogy for motherhood, the wilderness about sums it up. It can be beautiful with jaw-dropping scenery and sounds of sweet harmony. It can be exciting and adventurous. But it can also be dark and scary, leaving you feeling alone and afraid. It can be hard to see the forest, through the trees. It can be difficult to see the big picture of motherhood, through all the small moments we experience every day.

These short stories are not meant to make you a better mother, they are meant to make you a better child. By becoming a more mature child of God, you will most assuredly also become a more mature and controlled mother. But sister, don’t let that go to your head, you’re still not in control, you simply learn to release control to your Father.

I hope these daily readings serve as substance for you from the Holy Spirit. Gaining the perfect amount of nutrition precisely when you need it. I pray that it leaves you feeling energized and nourished.

We Are All In This Together

Motherhood has many seasons, and those seasons do not look or feel the same way for each momma reading this. You may be like me, in the thick of infants and toddlers. Or maybe your kids are older and more independent. Remember this, your heavenly father sees you in the season you are in and He will meet you there, regardless of how it feels or looks. Find encouragement in that truth. Find joy and worth in knowing Jesus. Find friendship in other mommas and give friendship and encouragement where you can.

Not My Will But His

Please understand this, these words, stories and analogies do not come from the perspective of an amazing mother. These devotions and posts come the perspective of a rebellious child with an amazing Heavenly Father.

The Holy Spirit has revealed these truths to me for your benefit. I pray that it encourages you to abide and be content and joyful in the arms of the Father of the universe. You’re doing great Momma.

So.

I'm Aly, and I have learned so much about my Heavenly Father since becoming a mother.

Come along with me on this journey.
