Your Friends Matter

It’s really hard to find friends as a mom. Like, REALLY HARD. Am I right?

Between making sure everyone is fed a somewhat healthy meal, getting everyone to school and practice on time, loving your husband, keeping deadlines at work, all while limiting screen time and cutting out caffeine, how are you supposed to find the time or the energy for friends?

We tend to have many acquaintances, but let me tell you why deep friendships are important. And not just deep friendships, but deep spiritual friendships. Those Christ loving women are going to point you toward Jesus. We need these friends to pray for us, to bring us closer to Jesus, and to hold us accountable which will make us effective.

Daniel had a few friends that were quite literally ride or die. When king Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that he insisted someone interpret for him WITHOUT him giving the interpreter the details, he declared that all wise men be killed because no could interpret the dream.Daniel and his friends were some of those wise men. (Daniel 2:1-15) When the king's guard came to kill Daniel and his friends, Daniel asked the king to give him a little more time, and that was granted. With that extra time, Daniel went to his friends and asked for prayer! (Daniel 2:16-18). “That night the secret was revealed” (Daniel 2:19), becuase of this little prayer meeting. These men prayed with Daniel to be saved together.

Do you have a group of friends who you can go to at the most stressful of times and say “Sister, pray for me”?

There is another story of a man who was literally lowered through a roof by his friends to get him closer to Jesus. (Mark 2:3-11; Matthew 9:2-8; Luke 5:17-26). This man was sick and the crowd around Jesus was too big and congested to get a stretcher through. So, these friends climbed themselves up on a roof, dragged their sick friend behind them, and cut a hole in the ceiling to get him to Jesus. Think about this, the sick friend probably wasn’t light. He may or may not have had a contagious disease so they were potentially risking their own health. They CUT A HOLE in someone’s roof, trespassing and vandalism anyone? Point of the story, they did what it took to get their friend to Jesus.

Do you have a group of friends that will do whatever it takes to get you to Jesus?

Scripture, is packed full of commands for us to hold each other accountable in our faith. Here are just a few examples:

“Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in sin, you who live by the spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfil the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:1-2.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” Hebrews 10:24

“Therefore, each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.” Ephesians 4:25

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17

Do you have a group of friends that will hold you accountable and sharpen you so you are more effective?

Remember, you need to be the receiver and giver in these friendships. Pray for each other, point each other to Jesus, hold each other accountable.

You are not meant to go this alone momma.

“Plans fail with lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” Proverbs 15:22

I’m praying you find them, and they find you!
