Waiting for the gift

"It's the most wonderful time of the year". That is usually what you hear around this season. And boy is it ever.

You may have also heard "It's advent season". Do you really know what advent means? I I did not for the longest time.

The roots are in latin with meanings of "arrival" or "to come". As believers, we are talking about the arrival of Christ, or the first coming of Christ. We look forward the whole month of december, to celebrating the coming of baby Jesus. The ultimate Christmas gift. Immanuel, "God (quite literally) with us".

We know it's coming, we just have to wait for it.

Kind of like when you wrap a gift for your kiddo a week or so before Christmas. They can see the gift, they know it's there, they may even have a good guess as to what it is and what it will be like, but they still have to wait for it, because you haven't said it's time yet.

The second comming of Jesus is like this for me. As I walk through this advent season, preparing my heart for the birth of the king, I can't help but think about his second coming. Do I live in waiting for the arrival or coming of Jesus the second time? I know it's coming, I can see it in scripture, I even think I have an idea of what it will be like to be quite literally with Jesus. However, I still have to wait for it, because God hasn't said "it's time" yet.

This Christmas season, may you live looking forward to the birth of our saviour. The King who was born to serve and live a perfect life so He could die for you.

May you live in anticipation of his second coming. Knowing you will receive the gift of eternal life when he comes back!
