Today Matters

It’s easy to get run down and feel like there are days that don’t really matter. Especially as busy moms, it can be challenging to be present and “in the moment” when we have a schedule and a to do list. Between swim practice, soccer games and cleaning our homes, the mundane can start to feel meaningless. But sister, let me tell you today matters to Jesus. Today may feel ordinary but let me tell you about some other ordinary days: Exodus 3:1 - It was an ordinary day for Moses, he was “keeping the flock of his father-in-law” when an angel of the Lord appeared to him! Just a normal day, with a talking, burning bush. Joshua 2:1 Rahab “the prostitute” answered the door when travelers knocked. She then chose to help them and chose God. Did I mention she is the mother of Boaz... who had Obed who had Jesse who had David... as in King David. Stay tuned for another blog all about the women in Jesus’ lineage. Rahab is just one of the many. Speaking of David. 1 Samuel 16:11 He was “keeping sheep” when Samuel came looking for a king! David was just going about his day, doing his job, when his life changed forever. John 4:7 this one is a favorite of mine... The Samaritan Woman at the well. She was simply going to get water, a daily routine, when she met Jesus. Imagine walking into Walmart to grab some avocados and BAM, Jesus wanted guac too. She was changed that day, and because of her testimony, “many believed” in Jesus (John 4:39). Acts 9:3 Saul met Jesus on the road to Damascus (a normal day at work - and by work, I mean hunting and killing Christians) and becomes Paul.... he literally went from persecuting to preaching! Man, what a story. Jesus took someone that no one would have ever picked to be a believer and made him one of the greatest examples of a Christian….ever. This is a common theme in case you haven’t noticed. These were all ordinary people, doing ordinary things. What set them apart? They answered Jesus. They believed in Jesus and followed Him!

So, what does this mean for us? How does this help us in the daily grind of motherhood? By recognizing that we don’t live FOR the day to day. We live IN the day to day and we must persevere with joy in the day to day. But we live in light of eternity. We live for the end game. We live for the advancement of the kingdom. We must answer Jesus. We must follow Him.

You see, when we stop living for ourselves and start living for Jesus, we can start to see the big picture. Our life is not about us. It’s about Him. And we can be amazing examples of that to our kiddos if we believe and live for Jesus.

So, when you are folding laundry, or picking up play-doh, remember momma, this day matters. Your attitude in the daily grind matters. Your example in how you handle daily triumphs and trials matter.

So, sister, hang in there. Today matters. What you are doing matters. You matter. Jesus loves you and has a big story for you!

If you do not know Jesus, let's chat. I'd love to tell you how he uses this broken, ordinary momma.
