Scripture to pray over your kids!

There is something very powerful about praying through scripture. After all, it is the very word of our Father. 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us that, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,” (ESV). So, let’s use it to teach and guide and protect our children. I have a few verses that I keep in a note on my phone. I have different topics and when I feel like they need guidance or prayer in a certain area, I open that note up and pray for them through those verses. Here are just a few examples, but I encourage you to look at your bible app and search a topic that you feel like your child needs help in and find versus related to that emotion or experience and pray through those verses.

When they need to accept Jesus as their Savior:

“Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” Acts 2:38.

When they need direction:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,

and do not lean on your own understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge him,

and he will make straight your paths” Proverbs 3:5-6.

When they need wisdom:

“So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.

Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.

We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light”

Colossians 1:9-12.

When they need to be a leader/ example:

“Let no one despise your youth; instead, you should be an example to the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity” 1 Timothy 4:12.

When they need protection:

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence” Psalm 91:1-3.

When they are scared:

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” Joshua 1:9.

I hope these verses provide some examples for you to pray for your children, specifically in the context of praying through scripture. Your father wants to hear from you. He wants to give you the desires of your heart momma. So, show him your heart. Ask him to mold your heart and your children’s hearts into hearts for Him.
