5 things our kids need to see us do.

1. Pray

This is probably the most important thing we can do with and for our children. It is so important for our children to see and hear us communicate with our heavenly father. If you want your kids to pray, then they have to see and hear you pray. Here are 3 examples of times I have tried to make prayer a daily habit for me and my kids.

- In the school drop off line.

- At meal times.

- Bedtime

“Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).

2. Apologize

This can be a tough one. Especially if you are apologizing to your child. It takes strength to admit when you are wrong. Your kiddos need to know that mommy can mess up sometimes too, and it’s not only ok to admit it, but it should be expected that we admit and ask for forgiveness.

“The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30).

3. Forgive

Let it go momma. Jesus dies for you so that you could be forgiven. The least we can do for others is forgive them then they wrong us. We are often quick to seek forgiveness but hesitant to give it in return. Let your kiddos see you be a mother full of grace because you know Jesus is full of grace for you.

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as Christ God forgave you” (Ephesians 4:32).

4. Process hard emotions like anxiety, fear, or failure.

Our kids will learn how to process their emotions by watching us process ours. We often don’t want our kids to see the negative emotions. Wea re afraid we will scar them somehow if they see us upset. Negative emotions are not bad, what we do with those emotions is what matters. Do we stew in them and try to process them on our own? Or do we take them to Jesus?

“But he said to me, “my grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weakness, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:9-10).

5. Have fun and laugh.

Just because you’re an adult doesn’t mean you have to stop having fun, especially with your kids. There is joy in the presence of the Lord. When we are close to God, there is a joy that is deeper than happiness. Let the Joy of the Lord shine through you.

“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Psalm 16:11).
