2024 Words for the Year with Bible Study Suggestions

Instead of resolutions or goals, I like to pick a word I feel like I need to work on. Pray about it! Here are some ideas.

Simplicity/ Contentment- maybe you need to declutter your home, schedule, mind, or all of the above. Bible study/ Book recommendation: “Essentialism: The disciplined pursuit of less.” By Greg McKeowin

“For where your treasure is there your heart will be also” Matthew 6:21.

Peace – do you struggle with anxiety or worry? Are you looking to clear your head and control your thoughts more this year? “Get out of your head” by Jennie Allen is an amazing read. There is also a bible study workbook that you can get for a more in depth study and it is amazing.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27

Patience- are you in a season of waiting on the Lord? Look to palms. Bible Study/ Book Recommendation- The Daily Grace Co. has a Psalm Bible study called “Wait a study through Psalm 31-60” that is great!

"I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry." Psalm 40:1

Presence- Do you feel like you’re missing out because you’re so busy? Do you need to live more in the moment? Bible Study/ Book recommendation: “Present over Perfect” by Shauna Niequist.

“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Pslam 118:24

Obedience- do you struggle to say yes to God? Has God been asking you to do something you’re scared to do? Maybe you need encouragement to take the leap of faith! Bible Study/ Book Recommendation- “What Happens When Women Say Yes to God ” by Lysa Terkeurst

“If you love Me, you will obey what I command.” John 14:15

Prayer- do you need to deepen your prayer life? Do you feel disconnected or distant from God? Bible study/ book recommendation “When You Pray” by multiple women with Lifeway Women.

“Pray without ceasing” 1 Thessalonians 5:17.

Fight- are you fighting a battle that feels like too much? Put on that spiritual armor and fight sister! Bible study/ book recommendation- “The Armor of God” study by Priscilla Shirer!

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” Ephesians 6:11.

Abide- do you need to spend more time in the word? Don’t we all? Bible study/ book recommendation- I can’t recommend “Women of the Word” by Jen Wilkin enough. This book truly changed the way I study. I also recommend “How to Study Your Bible” by Kay Arthur. This is a great way to learn to truly dive deep into scripture!

"Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.” John 15:4

Marriage – do you want to pour into your spouse this year? I highly recommend “Sacred Marriage” by Gary Thomas. Total game changer for me in how I Love and serve my husband!

Therefore, a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. “ Genesis 2:24

Humility- we could all use a lesson or two in humility. Jesus was the best example of humility and we are called to be like Him. Bible study/ book recommendation – “Gentle and Lowly” by Dane Ortlund changed my life. No joke. Give it a read.

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:29.

What will your focus be this year? Let’s set our eyes on Jesus and live in light of eternity!

“Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:2

I think I need to work on almost all of

these. I think my top 3 are simplicity, peace and presence. But the whole list is good. This post was great timing as I just had my new Study Bible delivered today so I can dive a little deeper and break everything down a little better so im very excited. I also got 2 daily devotional books last week so i can have a quick read before going to work early in the mornings. I will also check on some of your recommendations listed here. Thank you!

Thank you for this. I have been stressing a LOT lately. I am trying hard to free my clutter in my head. Inspiration is what you have offered and I am willing to try anything at this point.
